It is an operation aimed at replacing the two articular surfaces of the hip : the head of the femur and the acetabulum in which the head is articulated.
First the surgeon cuts the neck of the femur.
He first prepares the bone acetabulum in the pelvis where the female part of the joint will be placed: this is a metal piece that will be impacted into the bone acetabulum.
Then the surgeon prepares the inside of the femur where a femoral stem will be impacted in a bone bed.
Between the femoral stem and the metal cup, the surgeon will set up a friction couple either with double mobility or with single ceramic mobility.
It is this friction torque which will allow walking and joint amplitudes.
